About
Based on changes to the most recently passed New York State budget, homeowners who purchased homes after March 1, 2015 are required to apply for the STAR program through the Office of Real Property Tax Services in New York State. Any homeowner who was already enrolled in the program before March 1, 2015 will remain enrolled in the program through the Assessors' Office in the City of Schenectady.
If you were already enrolled in the Basic STAR exemption with the Assessors' Office and you believe that you may now qualify for the Enhanced STAR or Senior Low Income exemption program, please see the link below to the Enhanced STAR and Low Income Exemption form. The filing deadline is March 1, 2018. Proof of owner occupancy and all income received in 2016 is required from all resident owners and spouses as part of this process. If no income tax was filed, we will accept ALL income statements. Examples include, but are not limited to Social Security statements, pension, interest income, veterans' income, etc.
