Commissioner Michael C. Eidens is responsible for supervision of the Police, Fire, and Buildings Department.  He is a graduate of Wesleyan University and Albany Law School.  He practiced law in Schenectady at 621 Union Street from 1979 to 1994.

He was Chief Assistant District Attorney and later elected Schenectady County Court Judge.  During his ten years as County Judge, Eidens handled over 5000 felony cases.  Judge Eidens was appointed as an Acting NYS Supreme Court Justice in 2000.
He and Judge Drago developed Drug Courts in Schenectady County, which provided substance abuse and treatment for eligible persons charged with a felony.  He also developed the Schenectady County Alternative Treatment Court for eligible people with mental illness charged with a felony.  Both courts are still operational and effective today.  Judge Eidens retired from the bench and served two years as a County Legislator and then ten years as a NYS Judicial Hearing Officer.

Commissioner Eidens was the recipient of the Community Service Award by Schenectady County Stop-DWI in 1994 and again in 2004, and also the 2005 Schenectady County Human Rights Commission Criminal Justice Award.
