The Take Me Home Program is a program first created by the Pensacola Florida Police Department  for adults and children who may have difficulty communicating due to a developmental or cognitive disability who may need special assistance if they are alone or in times of emergency. This kind of assistance may be required if the person is unable to speak or properly identify themselves, if they become disoriented or act in a manner that could be misinterpreted by first responders. It is completely voluntary for citizens  to participate, and all information is kept confidential. there is no charge and there is no enrollment fee.

The Take me Home program includes database maintained by Schenectady Police Department which includes a recent digital picture, demographic information, caregiver or emergency contacts and any additional important information for the person enrolled. If a person in the system is encountered by a police officer, an officer can search the database in the patrol vehicle or at the police station. searches can be conducted by name physical descriptors and can assist in identifying and reconnecting the person with their loved one or caregiver.

To enroll one can simply download  the enrollment form and submit the completed form along with a recent digital photo to TakeMeHome@schenectadypd.com or can drop off the completed form and photo to Police Headquarters or any Schenectady Police Officer.
