Keeping the Electric City Electric
The City of Schenectady has become a regional destination for electric vehicle (EV) drivers. Over the past two years, we have added new charging stations and hybrid cars to our fleet, adopted streamlined EV supply equipment permitting policies, and integrated the City into the Capital District Electric Vehicle Charging Station Plan. We aim to continue to lead by example and inspire others to invest in advanced vehicles; our Vehicle Fleet Efficiency Policy, aimed at replacing passenger vehicles with advanced and efficient vehicles, is proof of that commitment. There are now 28 designated EV parking spaces open and available for public use (see map below for details)!
Schenectady's Electric Vehicle (EV) Destination Initiative aims to drive EV growth in the community as well as in the Capital Region through three interrelated project components:
The EV Destination:
Schenectady will continue to install more charging stations for both City vehicles and for public use to support greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction by all drivers.
Expand EV Deployment:
The City will purchase additional Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicles as the other vehicles in our fleet age.
Education and Outreach:
Schenectady has facilitated multiple workshops and will be hosting public events to increase awareness of EV topics and charging station use in the future. Material on these events will be available on this page as events are announced.
