[ARCHIVED] Tonko Selects Schenectady's Community Virtual Power Plant for Community Funding Push

Tonko Schenectady VPP

WASHINGTON, DC—Congressman Paul D. Tonko announced a slate of 15 community development and improvement projects across New York’s 20th Congressional District that he is submitting to the House Committee on Appropriations in a bid to bring direct federal investment to the region under the Fiscal Year (FY) 2023 Community Project Funding process.

“With a combination of visionary leadership and sound investment, we can unleash the untapped potential all across our Capital Region in ways that will support our residents, revitalize our communities, and strengthen our businesses,” Congressman Tonko said. “For this year’s community funding process, we received dozens of strong projects that exemplify that sound investment. The 15 projects my staff and I have selected through a rigorous application process bring key investments that will enable our communities to grow and thrive. My heartfelt thanks to the dedicated local leaders who proposed and developed these deserving projects. In the weeks and months ahead, I will work tirelessly in Washington to bring federal dollars home and ignite our Capital Region economy.”

Under guidelines issued by the Appropriations Committee, each Representative may request funding for up to 15 projects in their community for fiscal year 2023—although only a handful may actually be funded. Projects are restricted to a limited number of federal funding streams, and only state and local governments and eligible non-profit entities are permitted to receive funding.
